EXCLUSIVE: Heffernan expects Soldier improvement
by Johnny Ward, 08 October 2008
Seamus Heffernan was proud of Solider Of Fortune's performance at Longchamp on Sunday - if a shade forlorn that he had to split the prizemoney for third place.
The son of Galileo, fifth in the race last year, dead-heated for third under Heffernan in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Soldier Of Fortune has been relatively lightly-campaigned this term and is being aimed at the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Heffernan told setantasports.com: "I was very happy with his run - if a little bit disappointed I didn't get more money!
"It was his first run in the while, and I'd be expecting him to improve a little; it was a big thrill to finish so close. I was very happy with him.
"I was happy with everything - he wasn't unlucky. She's a very, very good filly," he said of winner Zarkava.
Heffernan played down the disappointing performances of Mastercraftsman and Yeats in Longchamp over the weekend, simply quipping: "That's racing."
