Woods' warning to rivals

Woods' warning to rivals

Tiger Woods says his knee surgery can be the gateway to even bigger and better things.

The world number one has been conspicuous by his absence following the surgery  he underwent after his US Open win - at Torrey Pines - in June.

Many golfers have failed to regain their top form after similar surgery but Woods sees only the positives.

“I’ve been trying to make changes [in my swing] for years, but I didn’t have much in [the knee],” Woods said on Reuters.

“It will be nice to be able to hit against a solid left side for the first time in years.”

Woods spoke many times with American Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger during the event at Valhalla, and the 14-time Major winner knows where the United States team got it right.

“We finally putted well," added Woods. “We’ve putted well at The Presidents Cup, but never the Ryder Cup.

“We made all the putts, hence we won.”

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
