by Mark Doyle, 05 July 2008
Tom Pernice Jr. claimed a share of the lead on day two of the AT&T National with a stunning round of 63.
The American carded eight birdies and just one bogey as he moved to nine-under-par, where he is joined by Jeff Overton, who continued his fine start with a flawless 65.
The pair enjoy a three-stroke advantage over their nearest rivals, Anthony Kim and Cliff Kresge, who shot 67 and 65 respectively.

Commenting on his magnificent round, Overton told pgatour.com: “Just amazing, you know, you don’t think you‘re going to come out and tackle 63 out here at Congressional.
“We had some rain last night and early this morning so the greens were much more receptive and, so if you hit some good quality shots, you had some good chances to get it close and that’s what happened."
Overnight leader Steve Marino could only manage a level-par 70 with his second round and he now shares fifth with Aussie duo Rod Pampling and Nick O’Hern, and his fellow Americans Steve Stricker, John Merrick, Jeff Maggert and Billy Mayfair.
Elsewhere, Alex Cejka heads the European challenge, the German following up his opening round of 67 with a less spectacular 71 to reach the halfway point two strokes the right side of par.
Jim Furyk also lies on two-under after a 68 on day two, while Korean KJ Choi and Sweden’s Jesper Parnevik are both one shot further back.
Brian Davis pulled back one stroke with his second round, the Englishman posting a 69 to move to one-over for the tournament overall.
