McCarron backs out of Leinster deal

Ross McCarron has decided not to see out the final year of his Leinster contract, with the player opting to go back to college and complete a degree.
McCarron, 23, will look to complete the final 12 months of his Arts [Economics and Sociology] degree at University College Dublin after his back line ambitions at Leinster took knock after knock due to a litany of injuries.
The player has suffered repeated problems with both hamstrings and also suffered a broken jaw in the course of the last year.
Connacht and Ulster both showed interest in him earlier in the year, but he was keen to stay at Leinster and prove himself, though now admits that the heavy talent pool at the province combined with his persistent injury woes have combined to make his mind up for him.
“I have another year to go on my contract and the easy thing would have been to be happy to be a squad player,” McCarron was quoted as saying by The Irish Times.
“There is plenty of talent in terms of backs at Leinster, but I just didn’t want to be a bit-part player.
“Things just weren’t working out for me. I haven’t turned my back completely on professional rugby but I decided I wanted to finish my degree. I’ll continue to play for Lansdowne.”
