Pittodrie to host Scotland game
by JP Lonergan, 15 May 2008
It was revealed on Thursday that the third of Scotland’s autumn test games will be held at Pittodrie Stadium.
The Aberdeen venue is a surprise selection by Scottish rugby bosses, with the Saturday game against minnows Canada potentially set to draw a crowd larger than the 21,500 capacity.
The capacity is almost 10,000 less than the attendance that turned out at Murrayfield for Scotland’s World Cup clash with Romania last year and that was a midweek evening game.
However, SRU chief executive Gordon McKie has no concerns that a gamble is being taken and said Aberdeen deserves to stage another game. He said in The Scotsman: "Our first international in Aberdeen, when Scotland met the Barbarians three years ago, was a resounding success on and off the pitch."
