Maloney: Hatton is fighting fit
by Mark Doyle, 15 May 2008
Frank Maloney has confirmed that Ricky Hatton’s May 24 clash with Jaun Lazcano will go ahead and the promoter inisisted that The Hitman’s fitness is not a worry ahead of the light-welterweight clash.
Hatton has been recently laid low by a virus and his preparations for his ‘homecoming’ bout have been affected.
However, fight promoter Maloney has claimed that Hatton is '100 percent' ready for his return to the ring.
"Ricky is fit and well, and the May 24 show will be a record-breaking event for British boxing,” Maloney stated.
"There has been no denial from team Hatton that Ricky picked up a virus for a short period, but he was so far advanced in his training that he was already preparing to cut back.
"Boxing and sports aficionados will know that super-fit athletes can easily pick up viruses and Ricky has simply followed medical advice and briefly cut back, but we can confirm that all is well and Ricky is back on course and cleared by his doctor.
"Anyone who thinks that Hatton's people would let him fight if he was not 100 percent physically fit need a psychiatrist."
