Harrison fails to regain licence

Scott Harrison has failed to regain his boxing licence.
Harrison, the former WBO lightweight world champion, has had his licence revoked since 2006 and on Wednesday The British Boxing Board of Control made the decision to maintain his suspension until the end of the year.
The 30-year-old Scot has not fought in 30 months since defeating Nedal Hussein to retain his WBO belt. Two cancelled defences later, he was stripped of his belt for ‘bringing the sport into disrepute’ after failing to fight Nicky Cook.
A series of personal problems ensued as he made the headlines for drink and depression-related incidents and suffered bankruptcy, and following his recent arrest on a drink-driving charge, the decision not to grant him his licence is the latest in a long line of blows.
At the Cardiff hearing, which Harrison attended in the company of his father and representative Grant Jeans, he was informed that his licence will be withheld until January 31, 2009, putting any plans to return to the ring in the near future very much on hold.
