Tamas: On his way

Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez has confirmed that Gabriel Tamas is in talks with Celtic in Glasgow.

The Romania defender has been holding negotiations with The Bhoys rather than participating in pre-season training with the Ligue 1 club.

Although Tamas is under contract for another three years, it is believed that a fee in the region of €5 million (just under £4 million) has persuaded AJA to sell.

"If the proposal is interesting and the two clubs can agree, we will not hold back," said Fernandez.

"And we will see then whether to replace him."

Gordon Strachan also has his sights set on Le Mans defender Marko Basa as the SPL champions look to add to the capture of Paddy McCourt.

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
