Killie up bid for Thompson
by Alex Livie, 05 July 2008

Jefferies: Final offer

Kilmarnock have tabled a revised offer for Northern Ireland striker Peter Thompson and manager Jim Jefferies has insisted it will be their final bid.

The 24-year-old has proved his class in front of goal for Linfield, having hit the back of the net on 44 occasions last term.

Killie failed with a bid earlier in the summer, but Jefferies feels Thompson is worth pursuing and has returned to the table with a revised bid believed to be in the region of £150,000.

"I don't think they want to do business and want much more money than we could ever afford,” Jefferies told the Daily Record.

"So we have made our final bid and we are not prepared to go any higher."

Who should coach the GB football team in 2012?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
