Poyet: End this Berba saga now
by Joseph Caron Dawe, 16 May 2008
Dimitar Berbatov’s future has been the subject of intense speculation for the most part of the season, and it would seem that even his employers are now becoming tired of the rumour merry-go-round.
The Bulgarian forward has been linked with moves to Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea as well as Italian giants Milan, but the conclusion of the saga appears to be no nearer.
Now Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet has admitted that the uncertainty is taking its toll on his and boss Juande Ramos’ plans for the new season, and the Uruguayan just wants the soap opera sorted one way or the other.
“It’s gone on for too long,” said Poyet in The Sun.
“It’s a problem. If he goes we need a replacement. But we’ve had no offers.”
Berbatov joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2006 and settled immediately at White Hart Lane, becoming a firm fans’ favourite.
However, with his form came inevitable attention and speculation, something which has not been helped by comments from his agent Emil Dantchev who stated earlier in the season that the 27-year-old ‘needed to play Champions League football’.
