Cahill confident in fitness fight

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill insists he will be fit in time for the start of the new season after undergoing surgery on his problematic metatarsal.
The Australia international fractured the bone in his foot – an injury that has dogged his career in recent times – and after missing The Toffees’ final seven games of the season he is eager to be ready for the start of the new campaign in August.
Cahill has upped the ante in his rehabilitation in a bid to be prepared to marshal the club’s midfield.
“Everything is going right on schedule,” he told the club's official website.
“I have seen the specialists again, and they let me go in the swimming pool. I had a long session which was pretty tiring.
“The swelling has gone down, and everything looks really good.”
Cahill is so determined to beat the injury which has hit him three times over the past year that he says he would have been prepared to sit out a lengthy period just to make sure it healed properly.
“If I had to sit out a whole season to get the foot right I would have,” he said. “But I'm very passionate about football and I don't like to sit on the sidelines.
“I understood what was going to happen.
“I played 20-odd games (this season), scored 10 goals, played in the Uefa Cup again and helped my club finish in Europe again.
“I've got six years of football left.”
