Solskjaer: It's like '99 all over again
by Tom Kell, 16 May 2008
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Setanta Sports News that there are a number of parallels between this season’s Manchester United squad and the one in which he triumphed in the 1999 Champions League.
The 2-1 final win over Bayern Munich nine years ago, which came courtesy of Solskjaer’s injury-time strike, gave United only their second-ever European Cup trophy.
Sir Alex Feguson’s side now have the chance to add a third to their silverware cabinet when they face Chelsea in Moscow next week.

“It’s difficult to compare [the two squads] but I think they compare in the way that we both had big, big squads and you can call on players that will perform for you,” Solskjaer told Setanta Sports News.
“You have so many international players, they’ve all had enough games this year to perform on the night. You have experience, you have youth, you have goalscorers, a great keeper, a great back four.
“It’s very, very similar, but I think maybe there’s a bit more pace in this team.
“They know how important games are and how nice a feeling it is when you become champions. It doesn’t matter if it’s The Premier League, Champions League or FA Cup.
“When you win that game on the day, that’s the best feeling. Hopefully this will be the start for these lads to get many, many medals.”
