Megson making changes
by Chris Stanton, 14 May 2008
Gary Megson has outlined the areas of his squad which he feels he will need to improve if Bolton are to avoid another fight against relegation.
Pace and a goalscorer are two things Megson believes his 16th-placed team have lacked and the former West Bromwich Albion boss is scouring the market as preparations begin already for next season.
The Trotters have confirmed that the on-loan trio of Mikel Alonso, Danny Guthrie and Grzegorz Rasiak will return to parent clubs Real Sociedad, Liverpool and Southampton respectively.
There will also be changes to the backroom team, with assistant Archie Knox to leave the club.
“The teams who have survived have got more work to do,” Megson told Setanta Sports News. “That said we’ve finished fifth from bottom, we’ve been down at the bottom since day one of the season and we’ve got away with it by the skin of our teeth.
“There’s a common goal that this doesn’t happen again and we're aware what we need to do to try and achieve that.
“There are some aspects in the squad where I don’t feel there is enough pace in our team and we’ll try and bring people in who will give us that but they’ve also got to have the quality.
“The club historically has never scored many goals and that’s happened again this season so if we can get someone in who has got a proven record for getting goals and can deliver that again we‘ll try and bring him in.”
